Aftercare
Healing is half the work.
General guidance for looking after fresh work. It is not medical advice — if something doesn't feel right, speak to a qualified healthcare professional.
Tattoo aftercare
- Cleaning
- Wash gently with clean hands and a mild, unscented soap, then pat dry with a clean towel or paper towel.
- Moisturising
- Apply a thin layer of the aftercare product recommended by your artist. Thin layers only — the skin needs air.
- Touching
- Avoid unnecessary touching, picking or scratching, and don't pick flakes or scabs as they lift.
- Sun
- Keep new work out of direct sun while it heals. Once fully healed, sunscreen keeps the piece sharp.
- Swimming
- No pools, saunas, hot tubs or open water until healed.
- Clothing
- Wear loose, clean clothing over the area so nothing rubs or traps moisture.
- What to expect
- Some redness, tenderness, light flaking and itching are normal in the first weeks. Timelines vary from person to person.
Piercing aftercare
- Cleaning
- Rinse with a sterile saline solution as directed. Don't use alcohol, peroxide or harsh antiseptics.
- Touching
- Leave it alone. Avoid twisting, turning or playing with the jewelry.
- Jewelry
- Keep the original implant-grade jewelry in until the piercing has settled. Come back to us for changes or downsizing.
- Sleeping
- Avoid sleeping directly on a new ear or facial piercing; a travel pillow helps.
- Swimming
- Keep the piercing out of pools, hot tubs and open water while it heals.
- Healing
- Healing times vary by placement — indicative ranges are listed on each piercing service page.
- When to seek help
- Contact the studio if you're unsure about the jewelry or placement. For signs of infection or a reaction, contact a qualified healthcare professional.
